1 Cup Awesome Weekend

Aaaaand we’re back!

The last few weeks were super busy with home, church and work stuff. Because of that, we took a few weeks away from 1 Cup Awesome. It’s good to be back and we are excited for the things we have to share with you all over the next couple of months. Most notably, we have a trip planned to San Francisco in the beginning of June. If you have been there before, we need to know of some great places to see and things to eat!

So, the food we ate this weekend was great. However, our Sunday morning was kind of sucky. We had some serious storms in the midwest and woke up on Sunday morning to a flooded basement. Ugh. We are still drying out, but we are getting there. While we weren’t cleaning up our soggy basement, here what we had to eat this weekend:

Saturday

Breakfast: Berry Smoothie, Peach Muffin

We made these Peach Muffins for our church for Easter last weekend and had some leftover in the freezer. Paired with a triple berry smoothie, it was a great breakfast.

Lunch: Fried Eggs, Ham, Toast

I know, this is really a breakfast meal. Sarah was out to lunch with a family member, so I was in charge of lunch. Gavin really wanted eggs, so we ended up having breakfast for lunch.

Dinner: Make Your Own Pizza Night

Using Naan as a crust, we let the kids choose their own toppings for their personal pizzas and then baked them at 450° F until the cheese was nice and melty. For the adults, we made a pepperoni pesto pizza with kalamata olives and a supreme pizza. We have made these before, but for some reason these homemade pizzas tasted better than any pizza we have ever made. So good.

Breakfast: Nothing

The most important meal of the day…Whoops.

Lunch: Black Bean Burrito

We had some leftover refried black beans so we threw them onto a tortilla with cheese and salsa. Simple, but awesome.

Dinner: Ham, Roasted Potatoes, Salad, Roll

Remember that ham I had for lunch the day before? Yeah, totally forgot we were having ham again the next day at Sarah’s parent’s house. Oh well…it was still great!

Have a great week!

  1. Took your advice and went to Shorts Burger & Shine over the weekend, while we where in Iowa City for the spring game. Totally Rocked! Can’t wait to go back! my only complaint is that it was to small, and not the most family friendly (if you have little ones)

  2. We just went to San Fran last fall & it was the best vacation ever! We stayed at the Marriott on Fisherman’s Wharf – GREAT location! Our favorite things were the Alcatraz tour, renting bikes & biking over the Golden Gate Bridge, visiting Muir Woods, & trips to Ghirardelli for nightly ice cream treats! Our fave restaurants were Alioto’s & Sutro’s at Cliff House. Have a great trip!

  3. My boyfriend took me there for the first time last November and it was SUCH a blast! I have a few ideas :-)

The hop on, hop off bus passes are great. They take you to all the tourist attractions and allow you to explore at your own pace.

Food wise, my top three picks are the following:

    Beach Street Grill
    http://www.beachstreetgrillsf.com/

A local told us about this hidden gem and it was fantastic! Organic, local, good prices, and such friendly people. I had the sourdough french toast and it was TO DIE FOR!

    Fog City Diner
    http://www.fogcitydiner.com/

A must see! Made famous from the movie So I Married An Axe Murderer, there is not one single bad thing on the menu. Hands down our best meal of the trip.

    Boudin Bakery
    http://www.boudinbakery.com/

Great for kids to see the fun animals made of sourdough! The food is excellent and we suggest the clam chowder bread bowl :-)

Hope you have a fun time on your trip! It really is a cool place to visit

  4. Ditto about the Muni bus pass in SF. You can hop on any of the public transportation options (not Bart) – electric and diesel buses, light rail, street cars, cable cars (a must-do!!!)

Tartine Bakery – go earlier in the day. Don’t be scared of the line out the door. It’ll go fairly fast. Amazing eclairs, lemon bars, croissants, quiche – pretty much everything.

Stop by Alamo Square for a quick picture. This is where the “Painted Lady” Victorian houses are – shown in the opening credits of “Full House” – where the Tanner’s lived.

Take a stroll in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood – part of the “hippie” movement.

Ferry Building – There’s a farmer’s market on certain days, but even on the off days there are a lot of food booths with some pretty tasty/gourmet foods.
