Apple Orchard

Wow…life has been crazy busy the past couple of weeks! Between Dave’s work trip, birthday parties galore, family adventures and everyday life, there has hardly been time for us to make any recipes and write about them. Thankfully though, we’ve had tons of great food experiences over the last couple of weeks and our posts throughout this week will feature those.

A few weeks ago, we started watching Friday Night Lights on Netflix. Our friends, Rob and Ami, basically commanded us to watch it. :)  So far, we are fans of the show! We love the way that the show portrays the marriage of the head football coach and his wife. If you have Netflix streaming and are looking for a show to watch, check it out! It’s a perfect show to watch this time of year.

We’ve said it many times before, but Fall is hands down our favorite season. What’s not to love about Fall? It’s full of amazing things like sweatshirts, soups, football (Dave’s high school football team is #1 in the state!), and of course, apple orchards.

Two weeks ago, we made our annual trip up to the Center Grove Orchard. We love this place!

As soon as we got there, we sprinted as fast as we could to grab some of the greatest food ever made…Apple Cider Donuts!!!

These puppies are warm and fluffy with a hint of apple and are covered in cinnamon and sugar. AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! So good!

After stuffing our faces, we headed over to look at some pumpkins. We already had a few pumpkins at home, so we weren’t looking to buy one. But that’s the great thing about kids…they are entertained just by touching a pumpkin!

LOVE THIS PICTURE…

After looking at the pumpkins, we took a hayrack ride out to the apple orchard to pick some fresh apples!

Since we were only 20 minutes away from Ames, IA, when we got done picking apples we decided to head up to The Café for lunch!

And it was incredible as always! Marley and Gavin know this place as “mommy and daddy’s all-time favorite restaurant.” :)

This was the first time we have ordered food on the kid’s menu. Their kid’s meals are only $3.50!!! Are you kidding me? Most places charge $5 for kid’s meals and serve crappy food. Marley ordered a cheese pizza big enough to feed her for a week and Gavin went with the cheese quesadilla.

For our meals, we decided to split the classic Cafe Burger and the Pambazo Pork (slow-roasted pork, green chiles, onions, black beans, bolillo roll, slaw and queso fresco). So good!!!

What a fantastic day! Now we just need to make a whole bunch of recipes with apples in them and share them all with you!
