TV Dinner

We are big believers that families should try to eat dinner together as much as possible. We know that as kids get older, this gets more and more difficult. But we really think it has great value to the strength and love in a family. However…we also value a meal shared between just the two of us. That’s why Thursday nights have officially been dubbed TV night in la casa de 1 cup Awesome. We become a little antsy throughout the day thinking about the hours of fantastic comedy and drama we’ll enjoy as soon as we tame our three hooligans. Let’s set the scene…

First we feed, bathe and PJ the kiddos. Then we get them all settled with a movie of their choosing before they hit the hay. After that we get started on our dinner. TV night requires a meal that is quick, easy and can be enjoyed from a bowl on the couch. Trader Joe’s to the rescue!

This week we went with BBQ Chicken Teriyaki, Vegetable Egg Rolls and brown rice. We made it in the microwave just like the recipe says, but also threw in some fresh matchstick carrots and chopped broccoli. Just cause it’s TV night doesn’t mean we can skip our veggies!

Then we served the chicken teriyaki on the rice, topped with sliced scallions, a sprinkling of sesame seeds and a piping hot egg roll nestled right on top.

It looked and tasted like great take out, but it was all made in our microwave for less than half the price! Now that is a TV dinner!

We lit a candle, grabbed a blanket, poured the cheap wine and settled in.

Last week we had a good line up. The Office, Parks and Rec, and Grey’s. Sadly, The Office and Parks and Rec are reruns tonight. :( Looks like we’ll just have to watch some more Friday Night Lights on Netflix. Clear eyes, full hearts…CAN’T LOSE!

What are your favorite TV shows? We also LOVE 30 Rock and can hardly wait until it returns to us!
